Setup Steps

In order to setup your Accounting Manager system, follow the Getting Started Guide included with the software, which is summarized in these steps:

1. Set up the chart of accounts using Maintain> Chart of Accounts.

2. Enter the beginning balances for any previously used accounts by creating a journal entry.

3. Set up the options files with their default accounts. These are set in the Preferences window under the Edit menu.

4. Set up the Terms Codes using Maintain> Terms Codes if you are planning on extending specific terms to your customers/owners, or are having terms extended to you by vendors.

5. Set up the Well Product Tax Table using Maintain> Disbursement and JIB Files> Well Product Tax Table. (Only needed if the system is to automatically calculate severance and production taxes. If the purchaser withholds these taxes, the table doesn't have to be defined.)

6. Add vendors to the system using Maintain> Vendors.

7. Add Customers to the system using Maintain> Customers.

8. Add royalty and working interest owners to the system using Maintain> Disbursement and JIB Files> Owner Information.

9. Add Well Information using Maintain> Disbursement and JIB Files> Well Information.

10. Set up the Division of Interests using Maintain> Disbursement and JIB Files> Division of Interests.

11. If your owner record and/or vendor record has been marked to Transfer the Owner's Activity to G/L, you'll need to define the accounts the system should use when posting that owner and/or vendor to the G/L. These are setup using Maintain> Disbursement and JIB Files> AFE/Expense Categories> and Revenue Categories.

12. If using the Payroll module, set up any extra payroll deductions, income or taxes using Maintain> Payroll Codes.

13. If using the Payroll module> set up employees and their options.

This encompasses all of the database setup steps needed to utilize the system fully. You can refer to your Getting Started Guide for more detailed information on setting up your company.
