MICR Fonts
The characters at the bottom of a check that represent the bank and routing numbers are printed with a special magnetic ink using a unique font that makes them easier for computer scanners to read them. This technology is known as MICR which stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. SherWare offers this capability to those who desire to print checks directly onto blank check stock. This is an optional feature and will only be enabled if you purchase it.
You will need two things in order to print checks on blank paper.
In addition to the MICR Fonts, when you purchase this module from SherWare we will setup your first check for you. This allows for a smooth transition so that you don't have to take the time to learn how to type in the different characters or work with the spacing on the check. Once we have the first one setup, you will have a template that you can use if you need to setup checks for another bank account at a later time. We can create as many formats as you need, but only the first one is provided with the purchase.
A detailed instruction manual is included within the MICR program that will be installed. Instead of duplicating the documentation here, you can just refer to that document. By default, the MICR Program will be installed at C:\Program Files (x86)\MICR. A word document will be located within this MICR folder named "Micr.doc" which contains the specifics of the program. If you want to see this but have not yet purchased the MICR fonts then just let us know and we can provide this to you as well.
When you purchase the MICR Fonts from SherWare, you will receive a link to install the MICR Fonts with the rest of the installation information. You will then need to provide a copy of a current check and any digital logos that will need to be on the check so that we can setup the first check format for you.
