The Investment status is for wells that your company only invests in, but do not operate. You will not be able to allocate any revenue or expenses in an investment well to multiple owners. The "Allocate All To" field will change to a drop down list for you to choose whether the detail is for a Royalty, Override or Working Interest when an investment well is chosen.
Investment wells allow you to enter the revenue/expenses for a well, but it won't be picked up and processed during a run closing, because you aren't actually distributing that money to anyone else. In order to report on an investment well, the entries have to be first assigned to history. This is done under the Build History for Investment Wells window. You select the year/period, and it looks at bills/cash receipts and adds their totals by period and adds them to the wellhist table, allowing you to run a few reports about the well. You will then be able to view this on any report that is not based on a run closing, like the production and MCF/BBL reports. The revenue and expenses for an investment well will not show up on the owner or well reports.
Overview of an investment well:
The well must have a status of "investment" on the Well Information window.
If you want to track your investment in a well that you are operating, you should be sure to add your company to the Division of Interest for this well.
Expenses must be entered on the Enter Bills window.
When you enter an expense the account will default to the "Accounts To Use For Posting Operator Owner Expense" account that you have specified on the AFE/Expense Categories window for that expense. If you don't want to use that account, you can change the account on the Enter Bills window when you enter it.
Revenue must be entered on the Production Receipts window.
When you enter revenue you will have to choose whether it is for a Royalty, Override or Working Interest. This will then post to the account specified on the Revenue Categories window for the type of revenue entered and the Interest type chosen. For example: If you enter gas revenue and choose Royalty Interest, the amount will post to the account you have specified for "Royalty Revenue" on the "MCF" category.
The Revenue and Expenses will not appear on reports for the "New Run" or for a closed run. Only reports based on history will show the totals for a well with an investment status.
You will have to manually build the history for your investment wells since they are not processed on a run closing. You can do this on the "Build History for Investment Wells" window. After the History is built the information will appear on the reports.
